VALERIE NAVARRO

Judge

Judge Valerie Navarro is a daughter of two Mexican immigrants. Judge Navarro’s parents instilled the importance in obtaining an education. She obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology with an emphasis in Law and Society in 2003 from the University of California, Riverside (UCR). She then went to Western State University College of Law, where she received her Juris Doctorate in 2006. She met her husband Francisco in law school. They both started their legal careers in Riverside County, where they have embraced as their community to live and work.

After graduating law school, Francisco was offered a job as a deputy district attorney and Judge Navarro was offered a job as a deputy public defender both in Riverside County. They have a seven-year-old daughter and four-year-old son. Having a deputy district attorney father and a deputy public defender mother, her children were able to see firsthand the importance of the justice system in its entirety of helping victims and advocating for the underrepresented.

Judge Navarro was appointed by Governor Gavin Newsom in March 2022. Now on the bench Judge Navarro never forgets where she came from or the importance of giving back to her community. If you were to watch her in court you would see a humble individual who shows empathy and respect to all as she administers justice. Judge Navarro was the first Latina judge to sit on the bench at the Larson Justice Center in Indio, California and the third Latina judge in Riverside Superior Court. Judge Navarro is part of the community she serves, raising two beautiful children and being a devoted wife to her husband who is now likewise a judge sitting in the Banning Justice Center.
